Gallardo Spyder is a variation of the sports car Gallardo built by Lamborghini. The name Gallardo comes from a breed of a famous Spanish fighting bull. In Spanish, the word gallardo itself translates to gallant, and means striking in Italian. This model of Lamborghini was designed by Luc Donckerwolke and built as a competitor to the Ferrari 360. It is now competing with the Ferrari F430. One of the distinctions between Gallardo and the previous Lamborghini models such as Countach and Diablo, is that the Gallardo does not have scissor doors that open upwards. The Gallardo comes with either the conventional H-Box siz-speed manual transmission or the advanced siz-speed electr-hydraulically controlled 'semi-automatic single-clutch sequential manual', also known as E-gear, which allows the driver to shift faster than on a manual transmission. Some of the other models of the Gallardo are SE, Nera and LP560-4, Verde Ithaca and Superleggera.
Gallardo Spyder was first unleashed onto the unsuspecting car enthusiasts in January of 2006 at the popular Los Angeles Auto Show. The parent company of the Gallardo is Audi AG. The production of the Gallardo began in 2003 and continues until the present time (2007). The car is assembled in Sant'Agata Bolognese, italy. The predecessor of the Gallardo model is Lamborghini Jalpa. This sports car has 2 doors, four-wheel drive and either 5.0 L V10 or 5.2L V10 engines. The wheelbase is 2560mm (or 100.8in). The length of this car is 4300mm (or 169.3in), the width is 1900mm (or 74.8in) and the height is 1165mm (45.9in) or 1184mm (46.6in) for the Spyder model. Curb weight is 1569kg (3,459lb).
