Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty -

Starcraft 2 is the sequel to Starcraft, a popular online multiplayer strategy video game featuring story-based single-player campaigns and free multiplayer gameplay on Battle.net against other players located anywhere in the world. Three distinctively different races are available to be controlled by the player: Terran, Zerg and Protoss. The point of the game is to play as one of the available races, gather resources and build an army to eliminate the enemy player (or multiple players) by destroying the opponent's base.

The game released on July 27th, is intended to contain the first installment of single-player missions and new units in the trilogy completed by the extension packs called Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void.

Due to the complexity of gameplay, the number of distinctively different units, and a resulting multitude of possible strategies, the game can be won by different means. While destruction of the opponent's base is the ultimate goal and the outcome of most online battles, in rare cases, the game can be won by the opponent player's realization that he is up against a superior player, at which point the defeated player would simply leave, or "surrender" the game. As written on the back side of the Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty's game box in which it made its official debut on July 27, 2010: whether you command the mysterious Protoss, the nomadic Terrans or the ruthless Zerg, you must decide how to outwit or outgun the enemy in an unforgiving universe of intense strategic combat.

The Three Playable Races

Terran

The terran race is the technologically advanced human race in Starcraft 2. They are a relatively young race out of the three races in the world of Starcraft 2. The story goes that centuries ago, a government-funded expedition was launched from Earth that resulted in a disaster. The survivors of the expedition established three colonies: the Confederacy, the Kel-Morian Combine, and the Umojan Protectorate. The confederacy was overthrown by a terrorist named Arcturus Mengsk in the confusion of the zerg invasion. Now Emperor, Mengsk controls this new dominant power.

Terrans are extremely adaptable to their environment and their units range from massive infantry armies to heavy armored vehicles, including the battle cruiser. While terrans don't have the natural abilities of the Zerg and innovation of Protoss' technology, terrans are excellent at defense using bunkers and armored tanks, whose firepower is unmatched once they lock into special siege mode.

Zerg

Zerg is a biological mutant race whose technology tree and build order represent a series of biological mutations that all start in the alive hive building, as opposed to construction from physical materials, the cornerstone of the other two races. The zerg race is known for being able to produce many relatively weak units (zerglings) very fast, and have the opportunity to overwhelm the opposing enemy by sheer numbers. However, advanced and upgraded units may be just as difficult to destroy as many of the Terran and Protoss units. The baneling is the new notable addition to the Zerg race in Starcraft 2, which is a unit that explodes into a bubbling pool of acid, burning everything in its way.

Protoss

Protoss are a humanoid alien race known for their extremely advanced technology such as teleporation and invisiblity, psionic power and cybernetics. Aiur is the homeworld of the protoss, it is a giant planet with the diameter of 13,273km with a climate of +/-30 degrees Centigrade, located in the Milky Way Galaxy. Protoss are known for their admiration of religion, which took its roots in the period of chaos on Aiur called Aeon of Strife.

Improvements and Gameplay Mechanics

The original game's brilliant design is vastly improved in Starcraft 2. Over 30 new units and weapons have been added since the Starcraft: Brood War expansion set. In the tradition of the original Starcraft game, each unit of every race has its counter unit. This logic allows players to spy on the opponent's base, learn about the enemy's plan and hopefully come up with an army of units appropriate for a counter-attack. This key element of Starcraft gameplay often defines the outcome of the game.

Starcraft 2 is originally released for the PC, as well as the Mac.
