I started tracking Authentic Society statistics slightly over a year ago. At the end of 2007 I added Google Analytics javascript code to every page on the site and turned off my default traffic statistics meters on the hosting website control panel as they were getting outdated and couldn't provide the same type of deep statistics for my website. As I wrote articles for this site I have learned a tremendous amount of information on website search-engine optimization, website promotion and other ways of increasing website traffic. My site wasn't very successful for a very long period of time as I experimented with things that did and didn't work. Throughout 2008 I tried different techniques for building traffic. I have tired different layouts and different types of content. I tried to understand why people spent more time on my website, what type of information attracted people who actually read it for over than just a few seconds.

2008-2009 Authentic Society Web Traffic Statistics Analisys

I'd like to share my site's statistics with everyone who visits Authentic Society. I printed some notes on the Google Analytics chart at crucial moments during the year that identify important events. Some of these notes give insights as to why the traffic reacted the way it did. I only got a grip on optimization techniques during the last half of December, and so there is a visible traffic increase pattern on Alexa as you can see on the chart.

By the end of 2008, interesting things started to happen. I have gained enough knowledge to understand what it takes to drive targeted traffic to a website. On December 14th, 2008 I started writing about JavaScript jQuery framework, I wrote several jQuery plugins including the very neat Mona Lisa Shuffle and I even wrote an article that explained how to create jQuery plugins featuring a couple of jQuery plugin design patterns. I then let people know about my work and closely watched the site statistics the next day. To my surprise, posting these jQuery articles was an event that produced most surprising results in the shortest period of time. My traffic spiked up 15 days before the end of the year by over 60% and continued to grow.

I use Alexa statistics to measure my web-site's success versus another content site called Free Information Society (www.freeInfosociety.com) run by Jonathan Dunder. It was his site that inspired me to start Authentic Society. In 2009, I am planning on competing with his traffic rank and pageviews. As you can see from the chart, I have triggered the first important traffic spikes in the history of the website. This chart was posted today on January 1st, 2009. Let's see what happens throughout this year. I will keep tracking and posting statistics right here, on this blog.
