This is the first article in the series of articles on blogging that will explain what it is, to blog, the different ways and reasons for blogging, monetizing your blogs and other information. I'd like to give a few brief perspectives on blogging in general, but I am also very interested in talking about making money on the Internet with your blog. Consider this an introduction article. It doesn't assume any experience with the Internet or blogging, and is targeted at practically anyone who is interested in learning more. I try to keep this information concise and insightful. I encourage every blogger, beginner or experienced, to only ever write about things that matter to other people, who may eventually turn into your loyal readers. A great idea is to write about something you have experienced in your life, and tell others about it. I'd like to share a wealth of information about writing blogs that I have accumulated over the years. This information is original and comes from my personal research. I usually do not use references when I write and pull the information from my head as I write. I noticed that sometimes, the value of information is not in the secret things that successful bloggers supposedly know. While I do believe that successful web-logger do have knowledge that outweighs the knowledge of a beginner blogger, let me ask you the following question. Have you ever noticed that no matter how many times you attempt to learn about those secrets, they seem to eventually slip away. Maybe there is no secret after all? Then what makes a blogger a successful blogger? What does make anyone successful at anything? I'd like to return to these questions in other articles I will post or already have posted on this site. In this article, however, I'd like to explore blogging as a general activity and perhaps throw some ideas at the wall and see what sticks. Many people have started blogs with different intentions. We start blogs because we like to write about what happens in our life. We write blogs because we like to expose our experience to strangers who will find our blogs on the Internet. We write blogs because we like to write. We write because we want to [monetize our blogs]. Some of the reasons are not very demanding. For example, writing to express yourself and your world-views is a relatively simple task. Other reasons are a little more demanding than not (such as trying to make money with your blog). The success of what you do always depends on the intention of what you are trying to accomplish because there are goals of various difficulties. For example, it is easy to be successful at expressing oneself with your blog, but it is much harder to be successful at making money with your blog. I explain how the latter can be accomplished in my other articles about blogging. We all have a personal story behind why we blog. Why did I start writing blogs? First of all, I enjoy writing. I like putting sentences together and making points and explaining my experience with something I have encountered in my life. After all, a blog is a conversation. When you are writing a blog, it is a conversation that you have with yourself. Once you put it out on the Internet, this conversation becomes public - you are talking to the audience you don't personally know. These are the people, the strangers your mother told you not to open the front door for, when they ring the bell and say they are here to bug spray your apartment. Blogging can be an opportunity to learn about yourself. What is your writing style? What are your interests? When you don't know something, you can always use the Internet to research information about that subject. You may learn a multitude of interesting things in the process of writing blogs. It is interesting that blogging is sometimes not taken seriously, but plenty of people make large amounts of money by blogging. They achieve this by placing Google AdSense ads in strategic locations on their blogs, using affiliate links that lead to websites such as Amazon.com or Ebay. If someone buys a product of some sorts from these sites, the owner of the blog gets paid a commission. There are many web-sites that offer affiliate programs which can be found throughout the Internet. These companies require the creation of your affiliate account where you will track your links and click-through statistics. But more about this later. Blogging is statistically fascinating, too. By using free statistics tools (such as Google Analytics, or a horde of others), we can track how many people visit our blogs, where they come from (geographically, as well as which sites they come from) and even how long they spend on a specific page of your blog. Knowing this information by itself is very rewarding. How would you like to know that a person from San Francisco, California spent 10 minutes reading your blog about Self-Improvement? Or that someone from San Jose spent 20 minutes reading your article about a favorite digital camera. In blogging, this is what we call value of content. If you are conscious about selecting subjects to blog about, eventually you will find your audience. Trust me though. On the Internet, the audience will find you first.
